This is undoubtedly one of the most fascinating and scenic areas in Bangkok has to offer. The Riverside encompasses a large area and is of historic significance in documenting the evolution of trade, warehousing and commercial activity. Today, it is an area for prime real estate and commercial development. Many hotels have established themselves here, especially near the area of Bangkrak.
What's fascinating about the area is the opportunity to observe the beehive of activity taking place - from taxi boats plying their regular routes, to rice barges being towed to nearby warehouses.
In the northern area is Sanam Loung and Bang Lum Phu - the political capital of Bangkok renown for its popular and historic landmarks. Moving south, the middle area is China Town, Silom and Bangrak - the commercial and business districts. Even further south, are the areas Charoen Krung and Klongtoey - the warehousing and trans shipment centers.
Close by is Sanam Luang - the political capital of Bangkok which has many historic landmarks and buildings, including the Grand Palace and Wat Pra Kaew. The area remains relatively free of modern architecture and gives a better feel for "old Bangkok".
